John Barry's "Raise the Titanic"

Not touching on what the movie was like, (cos opinions will vary) this piece of John Barrys work is a really nice score. Typical of that late 70's early 80's orchestral style that he adopted. A very subdued and melancolhic tone. If you've heard 'Beyondness of things' this has a very similar style. The Titanics theme is a beautiful lament that should really be able to pull anyones heart-strings. With some magnificent playing on soparano sax (well all the instruments really), this is something that John Barry fans should be glad to own. As film scores go it is a typical Barry piece with his signature over everything. And it certainly enhances the film which would probably have been very emotionally berreft otherwise. Final word .. don't be afraid of this score. It has some haunting love themes and you won't be sorry you bought this .. which is more than can be said if you bought the film :P 5 stars because its another great John Barry piece and the recording quality is pretty damned nice.

Fantastic & haunting

This is a great album of music from raise the titanic film , full of hauntingly surreal music , the film while sinking quicker than titanic in critics reviews is not as bad as people make out , it's a quite nice story line even if it was completely unfeasible , it has a good cast including a cameo from sir Alec Guinness , the special effects of the titanic are completely crap but you have to watch the storyline rather than just the effects , some if which are quite good while others are as l have said , crap . But it is the music that gives it class , this is a beautiful set of music and would be a good buy if not the movie

John Barry was one of the best-known composers of soundtrack music of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, but his career carried him through a multitude of music genres and styles. He was best-known in film in connection with his work on the James Bond pictures, but Barry was also the holder of five Academy Awards, none of them for the Bond movies. Born Free (for which he won Oscars for Best Score and Best Song), The Lion in Winter, Out of Africa, and Dances with Wolves are hardly unknown films...
