Definite hip-hop.

Army Of The Pharaohs is a collaboration supergroup of (at the time of writing) fifteen individual underground artists. On Ritual Of Battle, their sophomore album, they produce a hard-hitting sound, similar to that of horrorcore. Despite the narrow subject matter (violence is plentiful here, so not for the easily offended) the AOTP crew draw together several different styles of rhyming, keeping each song fresh and relatively interesting. The beats used are lush and imitate the old-school manner as opposed to the synth-laden pop backings often used in today's mainstream 'hip-hop'. Several memorable punch-lines are used in the lyrics (Vinnie Paz's 'call the gravedigger, put his body in the dirt/And let me know what it's like to become One with the earth' is a prime example) and this helps to keep the songs entertaining and stylish. There's nothing remotely new or experimental here, but with a winning, gritty, hip-hop recipe, the Pharaohs needn't be worried about winning over new fans so much as keeping their current ones happy. I would recommend this to any fan of hip-hop, or even metal, as I (and several of my friends) seem to enjoy both genres. Those who listen to hip-hop for the music and not the rhymes (which defeats the point of the poetry) will be severely disappointed, as, quite clearly, the magic of AOTP lies in the lyrics. That's not to say the beats aren't fantastic though.

A brilliant album...More classic stuff...As memorable as their first album...
