I'm Getting This One!!

Wow! Like the album could get any better!! The album is still going strong, with Beautiful Ballads and strong 60's sounding hits... I don't have the original, so i want this one for xmas!! Can't wait! I LOVE Hanging on too long!! Proud To Be Welsh :)

One of the best of the 08 and maybe 09 too! A Masterpeice

About seven/ eight months ago a friend of mine from work (my manager actually) walked in ranting about a fantastic new artist. Her Name was Duffy. How he had heard of her or the Album I don’t know. He is a part time DJ and has connections. So I knew of this great artist but could I get anything for love nor money, no. I had to wait for the Album to be released like everyone else. But boy was it worth the wait. So what’s great, well the first is Duffy’s voice, sweet; Soulful and filled with emotion it covers every song in this versatile album with ease and a sensual warmth that leaves you tingling and wanting to come back for more and more. Her amazingly versatile voice quivers and changes to match the tone and emotion evoked by every lyric. The lyrics themselves beautiful written and crafted, each song providing a story that you can immediately identify with, each song through the deep filled emotion of Duffy’s voice and the resplendent lyrics capable of taking your mind back to a place in your past, a place where you have been, a place where you have hurt, a place where you have cried, a place where you have laughed, a place where you have been rejected, a place where you have longed for more, a place where you have lost, a place where you have said goodbye, a place where you have wanted. If you have ever loved, broken up, fallen apart or been screwed around with, then every feeling that has ever been invoked during this time is in this album. Warwick Avenue is beautiful and soulful and we have all had a station or a place where we have had to say goodbye to someone, close your eyes and it’s a song written for you or about you, she’s singing to you and she’s saying goodbye. We’ve all been there and it’s so real. It’s hard to compare such greatness but for this and Rockferry; but if you like Norah Jones you will love these two songs. Serious is fantastic also - beautiful and sweet, a song of longing for more when you know you are never going to get it, this is rich in its intensity and so deep you can feel the sadness, you can feel the pain of someone wanting so much more. And these songs, although brilliant are not songs that stand out, Stepping Stone, Syrup and Honey, Hanging on to Long, and Mercy are just as wonderful each evoking its own emotion and memory. From the bonus Album there is also one Gem you should get and tag to the normal album and that’s Rain on your parade. This Album drawers influences and is up there with the best of the greats such as Diana Ross, The Supremes, Dolly Parton, Arethra Franklin, and if Duffy keeps producing music like this, she will be too. How should you listen to it, all I can say is buy it, put it on a high volume, pour a drink, sit down in an armchair, close your eyes and take it in. It will make you smile, it will make you cry and when it changes from sweet, soulful and melancholy to “Mercy” which is lavishly upbeat and joyful your struggle not to get up and dance. It is also timeless; you will never grow bored of it. Duffy talked at her Brit of a long hard road of singing in clubs and hard toil to get to this stage, but if every long hard road led to this boy wouldn’t it be worth it! This Album is pure beauty, a masterpeice

Biography

Born: 23 June 1984 in Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Emerging during the same boom of retro U.K.-based singers that launched Amy Winehouse, Duffy distinguished herself with a melodic, vintage voice that brought to mind such '60s artists as Dusty Springfield and Petula Clark. Born in the small coastal town of Nefyn on the Llyn Peninsula in Gwynedd, Wales, Amy Ann Duffy began singing at an early age. With a record collection limited to her parents' classic LPs, though, she had few influences to draw from. Her father's VHS tapes of the 1960s television...
