Murcof gets better, without changing

I was just short of clicking 5 stars for this one. Murcof seem to have got darker. The sounds and moods of the music are deeper and have more emotion to them, while remaining clinical and accurate. It takes a few listens the get into. I especially enjoyed Razon. One section of the track has the audio equivalent of walking along peacefully only to be decended into a aural freefall. Personal favorite is rRos. If you liked Martes, this will please and give you more of what you like.

Nothing Short of Brilliant

Dark. Sophisticated. And Elegant. Nothing more, nothing less than what is precisely necessary to send emotional vibrations down your spine. Murcof is a modern day musical genius and a master of ambience and minimalism. With its full dynamic range, its a test for any HiFi system.

Solid, but not as good as 'Martès'

'Remembranza' is more downbeat than Murcof's previous releases. You couldn't say laid-back; the impression is more of a slowly spreading slick of viscous fluid. The beats and bleeps take a back seat to the acoustic samples here, and times it feels less like electronica and more like the dark ambient of Lustmord or Thomas Köner. Still too eerie for the chill-out room, but less technically adventurous than his previous work. 'Martès' brilliantly walked the lines between electronic and acoustic sounds and between meditation and exhilaration. 'Remembranza' isn't as impressive, but there's no really weak material and the attention to detail and ear for texture is as keen as ever.

Murcof merges contemporary ‘holy minimalist’ orchestration and melancholic techno to create a near devotional music that has been compared to imaginary collaborations between Arvo Pärt and Thomas Brinkmann or Giya Kancheli and the Aphex Twin. Corona is involved with the rising Nortec movement, founded by artists (including Panoptica, Ruisort and Loopdrop) whose electronica incorporates popular traditional Mexican music. He is reported to be a near household...
