Album Review

Suburban life, '80s style, with lots of dwelling on relations with the opposite sex, including "MacDonald's Girl" and the somewhat more risque "Nookie at the Drive-In."

One word, 'Magical'!!!!!!!

Mr. Friedman has a haunting, timeless voice which evokes many feelings and I hasten to add, tears! Dean writes from the heart and seemingly about things that will visit us all, love, growing up and much more. If there was an album that can so vividly and beautifully tell a story, so touchingly, you can almost reach out and touch it, then this is the album. So rarley have I heard such depth, wonderful lyrics coupled with superb production. What you have hear is a timeless classic, up their with the best of them!!!! Genius!!!!!

You CAN borrow my Car - but clear out the McDonald's Wrappers before you give it back

A transitional record for Dean, in the eighties, and has some cherished moments. I love Marginal Middle Class, Hey Larry, Mcdonald's Girl and Nookie in The Mail. Like The Simpsons he crosses age boundaries and can be loved by the very young and the older alike. there's a mischieveous undercurrent to his stuff. Somewhere inbetween Neil Sedaka and Woody Allen. An international Institution.

Dean's great 3rd album

The last we heard of Dean for 20-odd years, unfortunately. Many great tracks on here: Hey Larry and McDonald's Girl are true top-drawer 80s classics, and at least two of the bonuses were as just as good songs (even if their cheaper-sounding production reveals their later origins). Not quite the end-to-end brilliance of his first two albums, but almost. Buy it!

One of '70s rock's one-hit wonders, Dean Friedman spent the spring and summer of 1977 as one of a small army of musicians invading the pop charts from New Jersey. He was there, in the wake of Bruce Springsteen, Phoebe Snow, and Patti Smith, with an infectious Top 30 hit called "Ariel" on Cashman & West's Lifesong label, and a considerable amount of newspaper press, spurred by his local-boy-makes-good story and the management of Allen Pepper and Stanley Snadowsky, who were also owners of New York's...
