Spine-tingling

Mark Knopfler's solo work is a recent discovery for this writer, and in compiling a 'best of' I hit on 'Sailing to Philadelphia'. I've played this track over and over and its got me totally hooked. Presumably that's James Taylor taking one of the parts. It's one of only several great tracks on this fine album, but this one sends a shiver up my spine every time!

Suprised and impressed.

Someone sent this album to me when I was living in Bolivia, and I played it simply because I was very short on new music. And wow, how glad was I? Best of Mark Knopfler's Albums!

If you are to buy one ablum out of all of his, I would seriously reccommend this one. If you don't want to buy the album and want to buy say 3 or 4 songs, buy: 2. Sailling to Philadelphia 6. Do America 5. The Last Laugh; and 14. One More Matinee In that order...

The most celebrated British guitar hero to emerge in the 1970s and '80s, Mark Knopfler rose to fame as the leader of Dire Straits, and his songwriting and incisive guitar work played a decisive role in making them an international success story. At a time when punk and new wave were making technique for its own sake seem irrelevant, and metal was taking the guitar solo in noisier and unpredictable directions, Knopfler's clean but dexterous picking proved there was still room for traditionalism and...
