Though he'd been recording for almost ten years, Omar's 1997 album This Is Not a Love Song was released into a music world very receptive to new soul music, thanks to the success of artistic vocalists like Maxwell and Erykah Badu. Like albums by those artists, Omar's fourth overall walks the increasingly fine line between spontaneous live instrumentation and pre-programmed electronic productions.
