Album Review

Although the U.K. punk legend Mark Perry never quite reached the pure punk of Alternative TV's debut nor the absolute left-field chaos of Vibing Up the Senile Man, he never failed to deliver acts of subversion against popular music throughout the '80s into the early '90s. By revisiting pop laced with the jarring angles, distortion, and attitude of punk — a passion for dub and Frank Zappa may be enough to put '77 punk fans off experimenting with albums beyond the debut classics. However, if '80s Sonic Youth, Pere Ubu, and Wire mean something to you, then later Alternative TV belongs right there on the shelf marked "unsurpassed for originality," maybe subtitled "does not age like wine."
