The Goa Mix

I just can't tell you how this took my breath away (and that of many other people by all accounts) when this appeared on the Essential Mix at the end of 1994. I think it still remains the most requested and most played Essential Mix of all time. Nobody had done anything like it at that time, mixing chilled out tracks with full on trance tunes, with film soundtracks thrown in to boot. I became an Oakenfold disciple because of this, and have remained so, even though he has never scaled the same heights again, especially recently. This mix sealed Oakenfold's reputation, even though he had been around for quite a while at that point, and his legendary Cream residency was to follow. And now, 16 years later, I can finally own ALL the tracks. My life is complete. It's right that this should be revisited now, just to remind everyone of how utterly dull and umimaginative the dance medium has now become, and just how good it CAN be. Ignore the tinny, moribund trance-by-numbers mixes you have come to accept and listen to this.

SImply the best mix ever!

O...M...G. 16 years of listening to this on probably the worst recording you could ever have and it's finally here. This was the sole reason I still have a tape deck in the house (remember those kids?).

If you have it... buy it again. If you don't have it... take a chance. I will personally reimberse you if you don't love it (obviously not really). If your too young to have heard it the first time... This was how ingeneous, upligting and special house / trance music used to be.

Long live Oakenfold... Master at the top of his game.

Perfect.... o!

This collection of music pretty much marks the moment when the spiritual, hazy, transcendant days of progressive house ended and gave way to the pitiful soul-less kiddy trance that has been making bad DJs and producers too much money for too long now!

Paul Oakenfold is the DJ, remixer, and producer who did more than anyone else to break house music in Britain during the late '80s. During 1987-1988, Oakenfold hosted a series of crucial club nights that introduced thousands of Brits to house music. Just a few years later, he helped push the new dance crossover into the charts by masterminding hit productions by Happy Mondays (among others) and forming one of the most successful dance labels of the 1990s, Perfecto Records. Even well over a decade...
