Album Review

Released in 2010, A Best of Us… For the Rest of Us is a greatest-hits compilation from California ska-punk band Reel Big Fish. Due to a conflict with the Jive label, the two-disc set is made up of re-recorded versions of their hits, featuring classics like “Everything Sucks” and “Sell Out,” as well as covers of a-ha’s “Take on Me” and Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl.” The second disc features bonus “skacoustic” versions of their hits. While these remade versions don’t quite capture the energy of the originals, the disc of acoustic tracks makes this a compilation that should appeal to both old fans and new.

Wicked. Amazing live. Ace!!!!!

An amazing album of hits. They sound better and better with each album. Gotta love these guys.

Great, but lacking a few songs!

What can be said about this album is it is a greatest hits album! Obviously it is a very good album for people getting into RBF! All the songs are re-recorded which does add an interesting spin for older veteran fans. However I believe it is lacking a few songs! In the booklet the guys state that these are the songs they they have to play live, but personally some of their key songs are missing. Tracks that are rarely or never played live such as " Are you sure this is cool" and "One Hit Wonderful" should be replaced by more common songs such as "The Kids Don't Like It" or "S.R" (HOW COULD THEY NOT INCLUDE THAT!!!"). However the Skatoustic tracks do add a fun new vibe to some of the songs! Personally if you are new to RBF i would reccomend the live album as it contains more tracks and a better collection of songs (It also sounds better too!).
But never the less, still and interesting and enjoyable album!

Reel Big Fish were one of the legions of Southern California ska-punk bands to edge into the mainstream following the mid-'90s success of No Doubt and Sublime. Like most of their peers, they were distinguished by their hyperkinetic stage shows, juvenile humor, ironic covers of new wave pop songs, and metallic shards of ska. The group cultivated an underground following that broke into the mainstream in summer 1997, when the single "Sell Out" became a modern rock radio and MTV favorite. Reel Big Fish's...
