Album Review

Hailing from Sheffield, England, the Arctic Monkeys gained a devoted live following soon after their formation in 2003, well before any major record labels had a clue about their existence. Released in advance of their eagerly awaited debut album, When the Sun Goes Down is an EP featuring a trio of the band's U.K. B-sides. It displays a Ray Davies-style songwriting sensibility, which, combined with the Monkeys' improbable youth, conjures memories of '70s teen punk prodigies the Undertones, if the Undertones had been into U.K. and U.S. hip-hop, Oasis, System of a Down, and Queens of the Stone Age., Rovi

Awesome song

I heard this song, known by most as scummy, at reading festival last summer, and all you have to do is imagine you are in a tent the size of a small hall, packed in close to everyone else, singing along with the whole crowd so loudly that alex, the lead singer, gives up, and lets the crowd raise the roof. this is an awesome song, and in my opinion, their best. give it a try.... and imagine that tent....

Music for this generation

An absolutley brilliant song, soaring guitars, straining vocals that shout of real life to this generation. Originally known as Scummy to the fans. The B-sides perfectly compliment the undoubtedly number one spot especially the song 7 with its 'Eton Rifles' guitar riff. Top Stuff

You Can't Get Better Than The Arctic Monkeys

Their demos have been floating around the internet for quite a bit now. This has lead to a huge fan base, due to people uploading, downloading and sharing their tracks. The Arctic Monkeys are going to be huge in 2006. With the release of "When The Sun Goes Down" and their debut album, “Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not”, out next week, I’m sure they are going to have another two number 1's. And they're only 19 / 20 years old.....

Formed: 2003 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

By distilling the sounds of Franz Ferdinand, the Clash, the Strokes, and the Libertines into a hybrid of swaggering indie rock and danceable neo-punk, Arctic Monkeys became one of the U.K.'s biggest bands of the new millennium. Their meteoric rise began in 2005, when the teenagers fielded offers from major labels and drew a sold-out crowd to the London Astoria, using little more than a self-released EP as bait. Several months later, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What...
