A Return To Glory

Sign 'O' The Times, in many peoples opinion, saw Prince return to what he's best at after changing direction with his previsou two albums - Rock and Roll. And you certainly get that in this album, I Could Never Take The Place of Your man and Sign 'O' the Times are absolute classics in that genre. But Prince also shows that he has so much more diversity as a musician, wowing us with falsetto ballads like If I Was Your Girlfriend and Adore and then turning 180 degrees and grinding out obscure but fascinating songs like Hot Thing and Strange Relationship. This album is one of those that everyone should own a copy of. Every emotion in 16 songs.

messy but masterful...only prince

chaotic, disorientating, confusing...just a few words used to decribe Sign o the times. Negative words? no way. This album, if its possible, shows us what Prince is all about: funk, irrepressable rythm, beat, superb lyricism and most of all, that dirty pop that makes him so very different from the cleaner cut artists out there. Sign o the times may not have a 'kiss' or 'little red corvette', but the depth and levels of emotion and understanding in this work makes it his best artistic and creative piece, if not most commercially sucessful. Now this isnt an album that is easy to listen to, you have to listen hard to those lyrics and those little spots of music that seep in and out of these tracks. However for the effort, you will feel greatly rewarded. Highly reccomended for MUSIC lovers.

An pop/funk/R&B masterpiece

In the 80s, people often debated who was better: Michael Jackson or Prince? Well, this album came out the same year as MJ's Bad, and there is really no comparison between the two. Prince is the master of making albums that are both sexy and spiritual, and Sign 'O' The Times is the master at his peak. Slow Love is as seductive as Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On, and I'm not religious, but The Cross makes me want to believe!
