Not All There

Its an impossible task - cover Dylan! Its been said "No one does Dylan like Dylan". However, these attempts are surprisingly good. Highlights are Mark Lanegan's Man In The Long Black Coat and Knockin' On Heavens Door by Antony & The Johnsons. Bob, if you happen to read this - record an album with The Million Dollar Bashers!

I'm not really a fan of Dylan's

However this film was fantastic. Cate Blanchett quite extraordinary-so for me Ballad of the Thin Man, Simple Twist of Fate, Just like A Woman are great songs. This soundtrack by all these artists - Sonic Youth, Calexico, Sufjan Stevens, The Hold Steady made me want to go check out Dylan. Well I'm still not a fan. But in their hands his songs are great and his lyrics like a favourite bell. So I'd recommend this soundtrack. You don't have to have seen the film as all the songs exist like their own little stories. But it's poignant for seeing Heath Ledger.

No I'm Here

I've sampled the whole album and there are many priceless interpretations here but the one you are ALL looking for is the very last - which is clearly The Basement Tapes outtake which has never sounded so good. The mysteries are slowly being revealed, the curtains are coming down but they will never reveal 'Bob Dylan' only Robert Zimmerman's alter - egoes [as does this highly enjoyable film. I really hope though that Bob's voice was more consistant than the divine Ms Blanchett has it - sounds like a late and rocky puberty.
