well worth the money

Intense album from Dream Theater. From a musical point of view some songs were better than others (namely The Glass Prison. the 1st solo from John Petrucci is to die for) but on the whole a very versatile album. This shows that Dream Theater really are one of the best prog bands there is.

The real beginning of Dream Theater

I tell ya, when DT fans around the world put this disc on their hi-fis and heard The glass prison, they must have been shocked by the contrast from Metropolis pt 2. This album (for me, at least) was the beginning of DT as we know it: putting the metal in prog metal. Petrucci, Portnoy, Myung, LaBrie and the newcomer at that time Rudess defined themselves with this album. The really heavy parts and the really light parts are pieced together excellently. Well done.
