iTunes Review

A cohesive concept album about the struggle to conquer Valhalla with swords and honor, Surtur Rising is also a take-no-prisoners sonic explosion. The mighty guitars of "War of the Gods," punishing death-march "Destroyers of the Universe," emotional wreckage of "The Last Stand of Frej," and doomsaying chant of "Wrath of the Norseman" are Amon Amarth in their purest form. From start to finish, some of their most memorable riffs and tunes shore up these mythological images of wartime valor.

Customer Reviews

Amon Amarth always deliver quality albums and Surtur Rising is no different. There really is no better melodeath band at the moment. They have the perfect balance of melody and death metal brutality, together with norse mythology based lyrics that really suit the band's style and atmosphere. Top songs for me are War Of The Gods (a classic opener!), Destroyer Of The Universe and A Beast Am I, but all songs are top class (definitely no filler here). If you're familiar with the band and like them then don't hesitate another second - get this! It's as good as anything the've done. Those new to the band could definitely start here and work their way back through the preceeding albums. Best album of 2011 so far!
