Album Review

Underwater Sunlight was the first album Paul Haslinger recorded with Tangerine Dream and his presence is immediately felt. With Haslinger, the group relied more heavily on strict structures and jarring compositional flourishes, which is only appropriate, since he came directly from a classical background. The group hadn't quite figured out how to fully incorporate these techniques into their music, but the results on Underwater are nevertheless fascinating.

Customer Reviews

Good but not their best

Moody atmospheric and a great backing track for some underwater video.
Song of the whale part 1 is very strong whereas part 2 is very weak.
Ride the Ray is the best track on the album.
Worth having if your a dedicated TD fan.

A Brilliant Work of Art

Tangerine Dream has never let me down, and I didn't expect anything less of them from this album. Both songs of the whale are amazing and atmospheric, and the rest, whilst not as thrilling, are still wonderful to listen to. If you're looking for some nice electronic music, I highly recommend this for you

Perfect driving album.

Quite possibly one of the more poppier of the TD albums and that is in no way putting this album down. Quite a few of their albums can drift away but this is a driving and tuneful album that is also a cohesive collection of tracks that would make a perfect soundtrack to any long journey on the road. Stunning album by Tangerine Dream.

Founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese in Berlin, the group progressed through a full three dozen lineups (Froese being the only continuous member with staying power) and four distinct stages of development: the experimentalist minimalism of the late '60s and...
