Although Isaac Gracie’s debut EP has a definite sense of place–as the title suggests, it was recorded in his bedroom–it’s an utterly timeless record. His spine-tingling folk and folk-rock sounds simultaneously ancient and new as he harnesses intense emotion into the lo-fi framework of one man, his guitar and some haunting harmonies. Whether he’s grappling with a sinking psyche (“Terrified”), poking at a bruised heart (“Hollow Crown”) or simmering into a scratchy protest song (“We’re so Very Lost”), Gracie’s intimacy and melodies are captivating.
