Masters of their craft on highest form

I had this LP when it first came it out and gave it to my son along with all my LPs because he is a jazz musician and I am not. Most of the LPs that I really needed I have replaced; but this one I only discovered recently. The remastering brings the music to life as though the recording was in 2006 rather than in June 1956. All four (Rollins, Roach, Tommy Flanagan piano and Doug Watkins bass) are hot but Rollins and Roach are really superb. I particularly love, according to different moods, You don't know what love is (ballad mood) and Blue 7 (blues mood). Blue 7 is a superbly crafted performance with excellent interplay between the musicians especially Sonny and Max. If you like either Sonny Rollins or Max Roach, let alone both of them, not to be missed! Original recording: Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, NJ, 22 June 1956. Thanks for remastering the recording, Rudy.

I love this type of jazz. Your mind just floats around in the clouds. Thank you for lovely escapism.

Sonny Rollins will go down in history as not only the single most enduring tenor saxophonist of the bebop and hard bop era, but also as one of the greatest contemporary jazz saxophonists of them all. His fluid and harmonically innovative ideas, effortless manner, and easily identifiable and accessible sound have influenced generations of performers, but have also fueled the notion that mainstream jazz music can be widely enjoyed, recognized, and proliferated.
