Album Review

A budget compilation from the U.K.'s Spectrum label, The Very Best of the Stylistics looks somewhat suspect, like it might be a set of shoddy re-recordings, but it does contain the original studio versions. It includes the Top Ten U.S. R&B singles "Betcha by Golly, Wow," "You Make Me Feel Brand New," "Break Up to Make Up," "People Make the World Go Round," "Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)," and "You'll Never Get to Heaven (If You Break My Heart)," as well as 14 other highlights from the group's discography. As of 2013, this was one of the better Stylistics anthologies available.

The Stylistics

My brother used to play The best of the Stylistics back in the 70’s, He died in 77 but he managed to brain wash me with this group…Thanks U'r brother Mark … Michael Bearcroft RIP

I wish i was a Stylistic

I wish i was a Stylistic but i'm not, lets be realistic. They said "Na-Na is the saddest word." Were they right? You decide! A unique sound in the 70's and now when you listen, you realise how ahead of their time The Stylistics were. "You make me feel brand new" and "I'm stone in love with you" are fine love songs that would woo anyone. Groove they could too! "Rockin' roll baby," i have danced to that many times at my local shopping centre. Once you start a Stylistic album, you don't interrupt. Just let it play to the end. I always listen to this just as the Mother in law arrives. She's not a fan, she doesn't stay long. Thank you The Stylistics.

The Old Ones Are Always The Best...

It's just great to hear these tracks again; a true 'Sunday morning' album.

After the Spinners and the O'Jays, the Stylistics were the leading Philly soul group produced by Thom Bell. During the early '70s, the band had 12 straight Top Ten hits, including "You Are Everything," "Betcha by Golly, Wow," "I'm Stone in Love With You," "Break Up to Make Up," and "You Make Me Feel Brand New." Of all their peers, the Stylistics were one of the smoothest and sweetest soul groups of their era. All of their hits were ballads, graced by the soaring falsetto of Russell Thompkins, Jr....
