Informed and inflamed by police brutality, social injustice and relationships in turmoil, POLIÇA’s third album promises an intense listen. It delivers on that and a fair bit more. Channy Leaneagh and Ryan Olson line their their fevered electro-pop with that fury for a sinewy set alive with gorgeous vulnerability. Walloping drums, hypnotic bass and woozy synths are set off by Leaneagh’s cathartic vocals—“Wedding” is a fevered adrenaline rush, “Berlin” an insidious, swarming beast, while the doleful “Lately” is breathtaking. The best is saved for last: “Lose You” perfectly distils the the band’s coiled, thrilling aggression.
