A very moving account of Tchaikovsky's final symphony
Who better to play Tchaikovsky's music than a Russian orchestra hosted by a Russian (well Ossetian but who's asking) conductor. I think Gergiev is quite possibly the BEST Tchaikovsky conductor in the world. He really feels the music and it comes through on this recording.
No better Tchaikovsky
The conductor and orchestra are perfectly at home with this Tchaikovsky’s final symphony. The recording is truly astonishing and of the impeccable quality I have come to expect from the Mariinksy Orchestra. The second movement in particular flows effortlessly along, perfectly paced and phrased, and the strings are really given the chance to sing out. I can’t imagine any other conductor surpassing Gergiev’s interpretation of Tchaikovsky. Wonderful!
