Joi Chua is Mandopop singer from Singapore who rose to success in 2004-2005, becoming one of her homeland's best-selling artists during this period. Born on August 3, 1977, she began her career in association with the label Ocean Butterflies. Her solo debut album, Joi (2000), was released in partnership with Sony Music Taiwan but failed to sell well in either Taiwan, where it was primarily marketed, or in her homeland. A few years after this disappointment, she reemerged with the album Sunrise (2004), released by the Play Music division of Warner Music. This album proved very popular in Singapore, becoming one of the best-selling Singaporean albums of the year. Her follow-up, One Day I Will (2005), proved similarly popular, leading to the Taiwanese compilation album Joi New Songs + Greatest Hits (2006). Her next album, Blessed (2007), was marketed in both Singapore and Taiwan.
