Pop's got a brand new bag

Following the 60s psych-pop of "Scratch", Andrew has followed hot on the heels with a more eclectic album of pure indie-pop gems. Heavy rotation fo Orange Juice and Edwyn Collins on the Johnson stereo has resulted in a sometimes jangly sometimes funky album full of surprises. Pop this may be but it's no less ambitious for it. There's an online collaboration with hotly-tipped Detroit based quirky-popsters White Raven (One Thing) and a tempo shifting powerhouse in the title track of the anticipated rock opera "The Lights", which also features a female vocal from Jennifer Hosie. "Black eyed girl" is a tale of domestic violence, while Purple Skies is a blissed out simple love song. There's even an ironic cliched pop ballad about writing a cliched pop ballad but we'll leave you guessing on that one. The album ends with a laid back tribute to soul legend Isaac Hayes, which manages to avoid the obvious path of a Shaft homage while nodding in the direction of 70s soundtracks via some Daft-punkery too.
