as upbeat an album as it gets...

It really annoys me how 99% of people who have heard of the B52's think that they only wrote one song - the school disco anthem - 'Loveshack', and that this is the beginning and the end of the band. They were so much more, so fresh and funny, genuine auteurs in their own right, and their music was so good, really catchy, interesting stuff. It's a shame that they don't seem to get the respect that they deserve, and if this album was released today it would be a surefire hit. Give it a try, and be very surprised....

Dance THIS mess around

Yesi know it aint 'what's going on', 'revolver' et al, there's so many more 'worthy' proper albums that'll always feature in the top 100s of this world. But for sheer invention, infectious lunacy, irony upon irony (tho always affectionate to its sources) this can't be beat. when everyone was trying to pose and be cool in the late 70s the B-52s and Blondie remembered the value of a good time and elevated bubblegum pop to high art. camp, kitsch, weird, cultish yes, but no novelty act. enjoy stroking your chins to the clash losers, and stuff middle class posing about being the archest kid on the block, this is smart AND fun! also the greatest guitar sound in all music. FACT!

The B52's, love it!

The best Album they ever did, pay no attention to the people who think the B52'S began with the love shack, this is a tribute to what they did best, Love it.

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

The first of many acts to cement the college town of Athens, Georgia, as a hotbed of alternative music, and one of the first American new wave acts to fuse retro-styled rock & roll with dance-friendly rhythms, the B-52s took their name from the Southern slang for the mile-high bouffant wigs sported by singers Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson, a look emblematic of the band's campy, thrift-store aesthetic. The five-piece group, which also included vocalist Fred Schneider, guitarist Ricky Wilson (Cindy's...
