long awaited remaster

This 1980s classic has been long overdue for a remaster but the wait has been worth it. The tracks have been carefully remastered without going for the trend of being over loud. Also includes the whole album in demo form, extended mixes and other old demos. The 1984 version of Take on me is interesting but the greatest gem is the rarer extended mix of The Sun Always Shines On TV (7:09) - In my opinion the best way to listen to one of the very best a-ha recordings.

Why No Extended Take On Me???

What bugs me about this release is that I was looking forward to getting hold of the 12" version of Take On Me. Unfortunately the extended version in this compilation is of the inferior 1984 release. It was the 1985 release that everyone knows and loves but the 12" version of that is not included. Therefore this can not be called a complete Deluxe Edition as it excludes the extended version of arguably their most famous track. The extended version of Hunting High And Low is a big disappointment also as it feels a little disjointed, however the extended version of The Sun Always Shines On TV (The one on Disc Two) is very good apart from the slightly distracting additional beat throughout. The extended version on Disc One again feels a little disjointed but doesn't have the annoying beat throughout. Very good release let down by such an important exclusion. How could you release this album with 41 tracks but not include the extended version of Take On Me...I mean how the hell could it be excluded...HOW...Okay I'll shut up now.

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Pal Waaktaar and Magne Furuholmen, formerly of Bridges, formed a-ha in the early '80s. Morten Harket joined the duo, and they left for the now "legendary London flat" (so called because of its state of disrepair) to make it. By late 1983 they had achieved part of that goal by signing to WEA. "Take on Me" took three times to become a hit in the U.K., eventually hitting number two in November 1985. Going one better in the U.S. mainly due to the wide exposure of its stunning video on MTV, which fused...
