Originally an independent artist, Jacobs recorded The Calm Comes After, which was picked up by Bar None Records with three new cuts. The charm of this album is in Jacobs's friendly, almost naive, delivery. Her lyrics have a deeply knowing womanly innocence that really says she sees more than she says and acts on it. Think of this artist as a less-religious urban Iris Dement. Kate is supported by a sparse country-sounding band.

Guitarist, singer and songwriter Kate Jacobs has an angelic voice and a unique gift for inventing characters and telling stories within the format of the four-minute song. Jacobs was born in Virginia but lived around the world in her youth, as her father worked as a diplomat.
