there is a lot on this album, that if you were to listen to individual tracks, just should not work, however James Holden has taken the term "greater than the sum of the parts" and totally blown it out the water. this is an absolute masterpiece in sound wrangling, years from now this will be viewed as some kind of turning point, an indespensible reference for the future of music. Do yourself a favour, if you are not already on the bandwagon, buy this and take the leap, if you have an open mind, and are adventurous, you will not be dis-appointed. I like a huge, varied range of music, this album has proven that there is still scope for something new, what will come next.
I've seen a future, and it is in James Holden !
a work of sheer genius!!!

cor blimey this is good

Brilliant – from primitive, tribal beats (Rannoch; circle within) to roxy music- esque avant garde (caterpillars) and state of the art electronic (gone feral, the inheritors). Up there with Thom Yorke but including a hint of eno with a dollop of something I have never quite heard before. My album of the year and one that has so many interesting facets its bound to be with us for a long time
