iTunes Review

Gustavo Santaolalla's music for Ang Lee's controversial, gay-themed western tragedy did considerably more than win the 2006 Academy Award for Best Original Score; "The Wings," the composer's spare, haunting guitar theme, quickly became part of the cultural zeitgeist. The balance of the score splits its time between Santaolalla's languorous Western pastoralism, old tunes sung by Steve Earle, Linda Ronstadt and Willie Nelson that capture the time and place even as they add emotional texture to the story (especially true of Nelson's tender cover of "He Was a Friend of MIne"), and a compelling slate of originals, highlighted by the composer's evocative collaborations with Emmylou Harris, Martina McBride and Teddy Thompson. It's a score that also stands as a landmark in the border-blurring diversity that has become a hallmark of film music in recent years (the composer also contributed compelling soundtracks for such Latin American film standouts as Amores Perros, 21 Grams and The Motorcycle Diaries).

I read Annie Proulxs' novel about 4 years ago,and I new then that it would be made as a potentially Oscar winning film,Ang Lee has made that a strong possibility. I didn't give thought then to the soundtrack, but Gustavo Santaolalla has produced the most enchanting and atmospheric musical score to match the magnificence of the location and the pathos of the characters. I followed the release of the film in the US and recently the music from American iTunes,I couldn't wait for the release in Britain, which happened two days ago.The sixth of January 2006 sees the launch of the film and whether you listen to the music first, or see the film first you are in for amost unforgettable experience

Easily, the centre peice of this soundtrack is Gustavo Santaolla's masterpeice 'The Wings'. I went to watch this film last night and can honest, truly say I have never been effected by a peice of cinema as I have by this. Every time I remember it I get this indescribable feeling of sadness and loss. I truly connected with it. So much of this is due to Santaolla. Even if you just download one track, the above mentioned 'The Wings' will be 79 pence well spent.

Trully Amazing, Fab!!!!!! A must see

I have never been affected by a movie to such an extent. Simple, yet amazingly shown love story. It will make you wonder why our society decides for us what’s right and what’s wrong. I bow my head down to both actors, truly stunning performance. Shame on the homophobic governor of Wyoming, who didn’t allow for the movie to be filmed there.
