iTunes Review

Gomez has kept things fresh over their 15-year career by incorporating various musical influences and by maintaining their unusually democratic approach — four of the five members write songs and lead vocals are split among three members, Tom Gray, Ben Ottewell, and Ian Ball. In terms of their discography Whatever’s On Your Mind isn’t the most experimental or overtly adventurous; rather, texture is the focus here. The carefully assembled songs and absorbing arrangements are injected with spacey electronica and warm keyboards that support the solid hooks and vocal harmonies in subtle ways. The melodic, mid-tempo “Options” and “I’ve Will Take You There” are memorable pop numbers with sharp saxophone breaks, and the title track and “Our Goodbye”, both sung by Ottewell, feature strings, and the contrast between his gruff voice and the sweet violins is sublime. “Equalize”, “The Place and the People”, and “X-Rays” are the most eccentric, strengthened by unexpected tempo shifts and bursts of noise. Whatever’s On Your Mind is a cohesive album that touches on a range of styles while ultimately sounding distinctly like Gomez.

An old Gomez Fan

OK its fine, absolutly fine. I'm a really big Gomez fan, bought this and everything else they have done. Saw Ben Otterwell play at York and will go see them at Leeds this week. There early work moved me like nothing else , and I could never never thank Gomez enough for making those unbelieveable sounds. Maybe it's me that's stuck in the past, but I can't help hoping that one day they will give us just one last taste of something completely origional. I love the silence but silence is killing me.

Great band and another fine album

This album is a on a par with how we operate and is definitely growing on me each time I listen. Whatevers on your mind is arguably their greatest song of all time. Essential Purchase. One day soon Gomez will release a greatest hits album and it will be amazing :)

Well it was never gonna be bad, was it!!!!

Gomez are a five-piece British act consisting of Ben Ottewell (vocals, guitar), Tom Gray (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Paul Blackburn (bass, guitar), Olly Peacock (drums), and Ian Ball (vocals, guitar, harmonica). Emerging during a time in which the majority of up-and-coming British bands were either retro-pop (à la Oasis), trip-hop (Portishead), or space rock (the Verve, Radiohead), Gomez were one of the few to feature bluesy influences. The Southport boys' debut for Virgin Records, Bring It On,...
