The fourth of six two-LP sets in this perfectly done reissue series contains all of the Charlie Barnet big-band's recordings from a busy four-month period. Highpoints include "Leapin' at the Lincoln," "Afternoon of a Moax," "Flying Home," "No Name Jive" and "Rockin' in Rhythm." The brief electric guitar solos of Bus Etri are quite interesting and, even if there are an excess of vocals, those of Mary Ann McCall are generally worth hearing.

Charlie Barnet was unusual in several ways. One of the few jazzmen to be born a millionaire, Barnet was a bit of a playboy throughout his life, ending up with a countless number of ex-wives and anecdotes. He was one of the few white big band leaders of the swing era to openly embrace the music of Duke Ellington (he also greatly admired Count Basie).
