iTunes Review

You’d realise Tim Minchin hailed from Down Under even if he didn't name-drop Oz so often—his irreverent, genre-crossing comedy songs immediately call to mind New Zealand neighbours Flight of the Conchords. Ready for This? begins simply, with a song about anti-ginger discrimination and an ode to Jesus that includes a blasphemous twist. By the end, the album becomes brilliantly conceptual: Music biz saga “Dark Side” jumps between rock and classical, and "Storm" is an atheist shaggy-dog story that lasts almost 10 minutes. It still feels too short.

Ready for this? You were, you just didn't know it

Outstanding, beautiful music, biting lyrics, hilarious and conscience pricking. Everything you'd expect from Tim Minchin and available on iTunes! If you've not heard him before, stop what you're doing and get a copy. If you have there'll be enough familiarity to make you comfortable and enough new stuff to please.

Ready for This? Are you kidding? ...I’ve been waiting for it!

Tim Minchin switches brilliantly between the sublime and the ridiculous, with great music and wickedly clever lyrics. The show was recorded with a band, including a string quartet and it was awesome - I was there. The album captures the ‘Live’ atmosphere and energy, particularly with tracks like “Darkside” and “The Good Book”. I’m in danger of listing all the tracks as my favourites keep changing but I have to say: the beat poem “Storm” is inspired; “Prejudice” is very clever and funny; “If I Didn’t have you” is hilarious; “Confessions” is a giggle fest and “White Wine In The Sun” is just... beautiful. This album will make you laugh, think and dance –> food for the head, heart and soul...your ‘rock’ soul obviously...

Work of art

2 months ago I was blissfully unaware of the genius that is Tim Minchin. I now sit here wondering why this man is not gracing our TV's and Radio everyday of the week. Purely infectious. Like many have already said, firstly it was funny, then thought provoking. With many songs you hear, your immediately drawn to its tune. However you cannot help with Tim's lyrical stamp, but listen to his words. The wife & I spent hours watching his video's on you tube til the early hours when we first heard of him. He sings beautifully, and it is amazing how one minute you can be watching and laughing then the next taking every word so seriously. I urge you all to support such fab piece of work and get him recognised for what he truly deserves.

Genre: Comedy

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Tim Minchin's initial aspirations leaned more toward music and acting than comedy. In his hometown of Perth he completed an Advanced Diploma in Contemporary Music as well as recording an album called Sit with his first band, Timmy the Dog, before moving to Melbourne. In Melbourne he joined a covers band as a keyboardist, acted in the theater, and -- on the side -- performed his own cabaret show for a year and a half. His solo shows contained a fair number of humorous songs simply because he was unable...
