iTunes Review

Tom Chaplin knows his way around a bombastic pop song. Recorded while Keane lay dormant, their frontman’s first solo album zeroes in on his strengths and amps up the emotion. “Still Waiting” is the first of several poised and poignant tracks to call on the pain of his various addiction battles (“buried in the rubbles, there’s a boy in trouble”, it begins), while “Quicksand” (written with the album’s producer Matt ‘Aqualung’ Hales) surrounds Chaplin’s towering vocal with a giddy orchestral arrangement.

Jesus this was awful. Whining like he's the only person to have taken drugs. One good song and the rest are terrible. Posh boy that can't handle it!

Wave Form

A brilliant solo debut from Tom, already in love with this after a few listens. Its been a good time for proper songwriting lately with albums from Bon Iver, Passenger and Pete Lunn Discover Me EP. This is up there and worthwhile buying the deluxe version too.

Tom, we've missed you!

I discovered Keane in 2013 after they went on hiatus and now cannot think of a song of theirs I do not like or listen to on a daily basis. I've always greatly admired Tom's voice and when I heard he was finally releasing his solo album in October, I couldn't have been happier. Hardened Heart and Quicksand do not disappoint. Tom's vocal range is a good as ever, and whilst I'll still be hoping for a Keane comeback, TC's album The Wave more than fills the Keane-shaped hole in my life. The Wave is definitely set to make a great debut and can't wait for the tour dates to be released.
