another gem

james grant has been a favourite of mine for years.Having one of the most remarkable voices of any singer i've ever heard he has never really got the acclaim he deserves, perhaps because music companies would find it difficult to pigeon hole him into any of the categories commonly recognised today. That said, he has had some fantastic albums in recent years and he is quite an entertaining live act. This album is good but doesn't have quite the power or the memorable songs of previous albums - there is an accomplished sound about many of the tracks on this new release, with "hallowing touch" bringing shivers to the back of my neck - check out his other albums for similar sensations. James is a hidden gem and part of me wants him to stay that way but he does deserve more success and recognition for his remarkable music and lyrics than he gets. IN short, love him, love his music and you should check him out.

Wow !

This is a rollercoaster of an album. Uplifting and moving. There's a bit of everything really. All very good quality. The guy can really sing and the lyrics are so evocative. Strong but subtle. And the songs are like a painting that you see something new in each time you see it/listen. This Could Be The Day will surely be used as an athem for a sports show sooner or later ... so get in quick before everyone's singing it !

could not agree more

i have to admit that i did not know james had a new cd out and was just browsing on here to see if any of his stuff was on , imagine my excitement when i found that after all this time he has released a new album :) , james is in my opinion the most underated singer/ songwriter of his time and deserves a lot more recognition than he gets , ok . i know this is pretty much what a previous reviewer has said but all that goes to show is that the previous reviewer knows quality as well :) this new cd is up there with his other stuff and is a very relaxing mellow album which deserves all the praise i hope it gets , james really is a master of music and i just wish he would tour a bit more as he is without doubt one of the best solo astists of recent times , i kid you not ! download just 1 of his albums and you will understand just how good he is and you will without doubt download the rest of his stuff , a true genius :) thanks for yet another amazing album james and if you read this , please come and play in nottingham :)

As a member of Friends Again and Love and Money, James Grant (vocals, guitar, bass) helped to establish Glasgow, Scotland, as a wellspring for brainy, soulful pop in the '80s. In 1982, Grant joined Friends Again, a punchy new wave outfit who crossed Aztec Camera's jangly riffs with David Bowie's stabs at funk. Friends Again released one LP, Trapped and Unwrapped, in 1984 before Grant left the group to exhibit his own talent for songwriting. In 1985, Grant formed Love and Money, a band who initially...
