Jangly, unimprovable pearls from the pride of Madchester: that’s what you’re in for on this lasting testament to the band that remoulded the indie lexicon. Unsurprisingly, their eponymous 1989 debut provides the bulk of the tracks—ranging from the hissing hi-hats and shimmering guitar of “She Bangs the Drums” to the triumphant wig-out on “I Am the Resurrection”—but the bluesy maximalism of Second Coming shines too. It's made to be adored.
