iTunes Editors' Notes

Let's be honest. No one thought the Foo Fighters would last so long, probably not even Dave Grohl. One look at old Nirvana photos offers some answers as to why: In seemingly every shot, the former drummer is playing the part of The Dude, his hair long and stringy, his chipmunk cheeks full of chewing gum, his face exuding sheer goofiness. In other words, there's barely any indication of a post-Cobain career featuring five deadly serious full-lengths and, now, the ultimate album of approval, a live acoustic one not unlike Nirvana's own Unplugged In New York. Yes, friends, we've come full circle, and Grohl's got a chamber music band behind him to prove it. Hell, even Nirvana sideman Pat Smear is along for the rather smooth ride on backup guitar. That's where the Cobain comparisons end, however. This is, through and through, Grohl's show, right down to a three-song encore that starts strikingly sad (the 'do I have a drinking problem?' confessional "Friend of a Friend"), shifts into sudden screams (a chilling, butcher block-raw "Best of You"), and closes with the kind of singalong only seen at Dashboard Confessional concerts ("Everlong").

foos

brilliant album, best band in the world. Somebody tell me why we are getting ripped off in the UK. In USA the prices are cheaper and movies and TV shows can be bought. C'mon Apple get it sorted. Anyone Agree??

Dave grohl and the foo's can do no wrong

I have seen the foo fighters about 3 times and nothing can do them justice except this brilliant live album.... one of the BEST EVER live bands out there

Ignore the bad reviews, this is awe-inspiring...

This album is a live album, containing some of the most well performed songs i've ever heard of the Foo Fighters. Ignore the bad reviews here, this is truly incredible. The people reviewing it with bad ratings seem to have expected massive rock sets - obviously not sure what an Acoustic gig is all about. The songs all work, with skin and bones and everlong and my hero standing out as particularly well done. Grohls vocals are impressive, and the band is incredible, never a bum note, simple perfection. I think that sums this album up actually. Simple Perfection. It's not over-complex, but it sounds amazing and makes you want to go out there with your guitar and strum all day.

Biography

Formed: 1995 in Seattle, WA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

When Foo Fighters released a debut album written and recorded entirely by leader Dave Grohl — at that point known only as the powerhouse drummer for Nirvana — in the summer of 1995, few would have guessed that the group would wind up as the one band to survive the '90s alt-rock explosion unscathed. Other bands burned brighter but they flamed out, breaking up after scoring a hit or two, while the Foos steadily racked up success after success, filling stadiums around the world while staying...
