Album Review

LL Cool J himself would warn listeners against calling it a comeback, because he's been around since the mid-'80s churning out records the whole time. And while 2006's Todd Smith doesn't pack near the punch of Radio or even '90s material like Mama Said Knock You Out, the album proves that Cool James always has and always will have wit and style to spare.

At this point, LL makes few pretenses to being street, and Todd Smith is straight commercial pop-rap, with production from industry heavyweights Pharrell, Timbaland, and Scott Storch, among others. The rapper also brings on a whole host of guest stars, including Jennifer Lopez (on the album's lead-off single "Control Myself"), Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo, and Jamie Foxx, among others. The result is solid radio-friendly hip-hop from a veteran of the genre., Rovi

No way!

This is one of the absolute worst albums of the year. Honestly, terrible singing, such a poor single, awful lyrics, everything! In-your-face nonsense.

Todd Smith, Another Solid LL Album!

I purchased this on the strength of 'Control Myself' (a wicked single!) and found that LL Cool J's 12th studio album is another solid production, with tracks ranging from hard Hip Hop such as 'It's LL and Santana' to smoother, R&B influenced cuts such as 'Down the Aisle'. The diversity of the album means it should appeal to most Hip Hop/R&B fans, as there's something for everyone's taste! The huge number of collaborations add a nice touch to the overall sound of the album and make it one of my favourite releases of 2006 so far. Overall it's a great album!

the album is really good. none of the songs sound the same and there's some great collaborations. it's great to see how much ll has developed his sound making it better but still keeping to his original amazing style. good album, worth a listen.

Hip-hop is notorious for short-lived careers, but LL Cool J is the inevitable exception that proves the rule. Releasing his first hit, "I Can't Live Without My Radio," in 1985 when he was just 17 years old, LL initially was a hard-hitting, streetwise b-boy with spare beats and ballistic rhymes. He quickly developed an alternate style, a romantic -- and occasionally sappy -- lover's rap epitomized by his mainstream breakthrough single, "I Need Love." LL's first two albums, Radio and Bigger and Deffer,...
