Let me nail my colours to the mast I'm an old-fashioned soul boy, Marvin, Otis, Aretha etc. I like a bit of passion and emotion in my music, not just some programmed beats and and some hollering diva proving she can fit every note in the scale into the shortest possible space. So when this album came along I was totally blown away, here is a singer that is obviously influenced by the classic stuff, but has dragged it into the present day and makes it sound contemporary. It's not just the singing which is truly remarkable it's the songs which tell tales of hard times and adversity but deliver uplifting messages of perseverance and spirit.
This should be massive, and could easily capture the same audience as Macy Gray did a couple of years back, or more recently Joss Stone as Ms Ford obviously has the kind of talent that that can hold it's own in any company. It's great to hear a real singer singing real songs about the things we all experience.
