About Andrés Orozco-Estrada

Andrés Orozco-Estrada is a Colombian conductor and violinist. Early on, he took violin lessons at the Instituto Musical Diego Echevarria, but he began to study conducting in 1992. He pursued his studies in Vienna, at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst. His career has been international in scope, for he has conducted such major orchestras as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Santa Cecilia Orchestra Rome, and the Orchestre National de France. His association with the Tonkünstler Orchester Niederösterreich began in 2004, when he conducted as a last-minute substitute at the Vienna Festwochen, which led to a two-year assignment as assistant conductor. In 2009, he became principal conductor of the Tonkünstler Orchester. He has also served as principal conductor of the Basque National Orchestra, and as music director of the Houston Symphony. He has recorded for Pentatone, Preiser Records, and Oehms Classics.
