iTunes Review

Reuniting after a layoff nearly as long as their existence, the Strokes came back in 2011 with Angles, an album that sounds as if the band had never taken time to explore solo albums and outside production duties. The staccato new wave of “Under Cover of Darkness” is everything one expects from the group. Its nervous jangle and gallop creates a tension unlike no other. “Two Kinds of Happiness” softens the anxiety with a smoother dreamlike frosting, but “You’re So Right” adds FM radio guitars to an avant-prog rock set-piece where spoken word and radically shifting textures stretch out the song’s two and a half minutes. “Taken for a Fool”, “Gratisfaction” and “Machu Picchu” highlight the band’s truest dynamics between guitarist Nick Valensi and drummer Fabrizio Moretti. Singer Julian Casablancas may have the band-leader job down cold, with his sneers and Richard Hell-like rambles, but the band is nothing without the spastic guitar solos and the precise beats.

It's a grower !

Don't judge on first listen, it grows on you until you'll love it. Yeah it's not perfect like "Is this it?" or "room on fire" but it is a brilliant record. The reason for these problems seems to be that Julian wasn't there most of the time, if they sort out the production for their 5th album it will be up their with is this it. This album shows signs of their genius such as taken for a fool and life is simple in the moonlight which makes me very hopeful for future albums. Well done the strokes !

Welcome Back!

Finally The Strokes are back! Great album...it's very different sounding to previous Strokes album but yet through it all you can still hear The Strokes great guitar riffs and catchy melodies! Personal favourite songs on the album include Under Cover Of Darkness, Taken For A Fool, Gratisfaction and Life Is Simple In The Moonlight. BUY IT!

Biography

Formed: 1998 in New York, NY

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Equally inspired by classic tunesmiths like Buddy Holly and John Lennon and the street-smart attitude and angular riffs of fellow New Yorkers Television and the Velvet Underground, the Strokes were also equally blessed and cursed with an enormous amount of hype — particularly from the U.K. music press, whose adulation for the group rivaled their fervor for Oasis in the early '90s. Barely in their twenties by the time their debut album, Is This It, arrived in 2001, singer/songwriter Julian Casablancas,...
