Amazing . . . but buy the physical CD

I almost threw up when I saw someone refer to Regina as the 'female Jamie Cullum'. This beautiful, fragile voiced songstress has nothing in common with the much maligned jazz hobbit. I can't believe a comparison was made . . . Anyway, it's a compilation of tracks from her previous albums, mostly about an imaginary character of hers "Mary Ann". Closer to her early album stuff - that is, more esoteric and anti-folky. Those who've just heard 'Fidelity' and other 'Begin to Hope' (her latest poppy album) tracks will be surprised by the rawness of this stuff. Favourite Tracks - "Us" and "Pavlov's Daughter" But buy this in a shop rather than on iTunes, the CD comes with a DVD containing a music video and short film. Better value . .

Creative, Beautiful music.

This is one of my coolest little finds. I love this album, i've been listing to it on and off for 3 days now, every time discovering new little things in every song. I have never heard song structure quite like this, she tells stories that go on crazy tangents, all in a lovely, quite foxy voice. Simple songs, mostly her singing with a piano with occasional violins, but its her vocal gymnastics and crazy lyrics which hold your attention. Brilliant album i recommend totally. expand your horizons!

I met Regina Spektor at her gig in Manchester 2004, she came across as such a sweet, fragile person. Her music is absolutely amazing, if you like this album you have to get 'Soviet Kitsch', 'Flowers' and 'Carbon Monoxide' are great songs from that album. Other bands to look out for would be 'Oi Va Voi' and 'Low Low Low La La La Love Love Love'. Both unique in their own way!!

Born: 19 February 1980 in Moscow, Russia

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

A veteran of New York's anti-folk scene, songwriter Regina Spektor makes quirky, highly eclectic, but always personal music. Born and raised in Moscow until age nine, Spektor listened to her father's bootleg tapes of Western pop and rock as a young child and also learned to play piano. She and her family moved from Russia to the Bronx, where she was immersed in American culture (at the time, hers was the first Russian family in the borough in 20 years). Eventually, Spektor and her family became part...
