Not just music, but history too.

I chanced upon this album whilst looking for a download of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. As I listened to each song I was compelled to go onto the next one!

Some of the arrangements are wonderful too and a wide range of artists have contributed. I was particularly struck by the honesty of the unfashionably unsentimental Rebel Soldier, though my favourite is the much more upbeat Marching through Georgia.

And as an Englishman, I was also surprised to find how our football (soccer) songs have been influenced by this music. I'm sure those singing them have no idea!

This album is not only wonderful listening, it has inspired me to learn more about this conflict. Not just music then, but history too - vividly and movingly arranged.

Highly recommended.
