Solid Effort

A really good album which rewards repeat listens. For me the transition from FOB to TLDOG did take some getting used to, the progression here drifts further from what I liked about YB to start with, yet I still enjoy what they produce.

Are you ready for change?

OK this is not quite what I expected from YB.
And Yet.....
We are into vocals from the start with Crystalline, Shine and Night Lead me Astray. In fact most tracks have vocals.
Now don't take this the wrong way but if Shpongle collaborated with Coldplay this is what might have been the result!
Only Safety in Numbers and System 700 are in familiar territory.
Make no mistake, this is a beautiful album. And will not disappoint. One that will be played over and over again.
Get it. Love it!

Don't ponder, buy it!

I'd read a few reviews of it on the internet, not all of which were flattering, so approached with some slight caution. Listening to the short iTunes previews didn't really do it much justice either, but I bought it regardless as I liked the previous albums so much and was gonna see them at Glastonbury. I'm glad I did, it's excellent!!! A follow on progression from "Last Days…" but more melodic, and seems more chilled-post-rock inspired it comes out more like a Pink Floyd album with a singer somewhere more between Patrick Watson (who was on the Ma Fleur album by Cinematic Orchestra) and Chris Martin at his very best live, with modern psychedelic space-trance electronica, and peppered with interesting time signature changes now and then. I kinda see how some of the bad reviews may have come; if you want an dance/electro album you'll be sorely disappointed. If on the other hand you want chilled out atmospheric songs with beautiful builds and crescendos with fantastic synth textures, that may not instantly make you tap your foot from the first bar of the song, but build up over time until you suddenly realise you're enraptured by the beautiful tapestry of sound filled with jangly and funky rhythms and bleeps that you can't help but smile to, then click the buy button now! This Deluxe edition has 3 bonus tracks, 2 of which are acoustic versions of 2 other tunes on the album. These also highlight how good they are, as they can still stand as great songs without all of the electronics and effects. An album I can put on and just listen around and around to on repeat; which is handy as it deserves plenty of listens! (For the record; they also do them beautifully live and are a must-see band!)
