Editors’ Notes

MGMT’s full-length debut is a densely layered, proudly psychedelic delight. The songs are strong enough to stand up to the bold (mostly synthesized) aural choices made by producer Dave Fridmann (of Flaming Lips fame). Fridmann’s skillful touch, spot-on sequencing, and a distinctive MGMT sparkle help tie together these stylistic adventures. This colorful debut is a dazzling trip through 40 years of psychedelic pop.

What The World's Been Waiting For

Had to use those words as my first listen to this gave me the goosebumps in a way I haven't had since hearing the first Stone Roses album - too long a wait but at last it's over - this is going to be one of those records that in thirty years time people will remember where they were the first time they heard this. In fact, this album is going to change the world. I read that these guys were inspired by the Velvet Revolution - I vote we use this as the soundtrack to trying to sort out the mess the world's in right now. Who's with us?

absolutly wonderful

what can i say about this album, its an awesome album it could be one of the best i have ever owned every track is totally different it offers somthing for eveyone, its one of the few albums where i love every track no need for skipping! buy this album today i saw them live in manchester recently and they are even better live. miss this album at your peril!!!

Interesting, highly listenable without seeming gimmicky or repetitve, wonderful in a word. Not the biggest fan of electronica but this brings something new to the table mixing folk with an almost Daft Punk sound at times. Some sounds are reminiscent of David Bowie, Arcade Fire and to some extent, The Rolling Stones. The lyrics are quirky, imaginitive and deep (something you don't always expect from some of todays more popular bands). Can't wait for more.

Finding an unlikely middle point between Suicide's hostile, proto-electro punk art noise and the sardonic, pop-friendly sound of the Flaming Lips, MGMT started as electroclash musical terrorists but quickly grew into an eclectic, brainy pop group with psychedelic overtones. MGMT first formed in 2002, during Ben Goldwasser and Andrew Van Wyngarden's freshman year as art students at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. The band was initially known as the Management, and its shows consisted...
