The X Collection: 1980-1987

This contains the six albums X recorded between 1980 and 1987, without the bonus tracks that appeared on subsequent deluxe packages of each record. So included here are 1980’s Los Angeles, 1981’s Wild Gift, 1982’s Under the Big Black Sun, 1983’s More Fun in the New World 1985’s Ain’t Love Grand, and 1987’s See How We Are. The first three albums are considered virtually flawless, with More Fun in the New World showing a few cracks in the band's uniform style in efforts to break through commercially. This is felt further on Ain’t Love Grand, where metal producer Michael Wagener tries to make X compatible for hard rock radio and hits the target with the excellent “Burning House of Love.” See How We Are, with Tony Gilkyson and Dave Alvin replacing Billy Zoom, is a decent rebound, with Alvin’s “4th of July” being the highlight.
