Album Review

Sydney, Australia's mega-church Hillsong teamed up with English CCM superstars Delirious? to record Unified Praise, a modern rock/arena rock-drenched live super show. Delirious?, backed by the Hillsong Church Choir and thousands of fans, open the set with a one-two punch, followed by a trio of power ballads fronted by Hillsong's iconic diva, Darlene Zschech. The album picks up the modern rock vibe again midway through, clearly gripping the audience in blissful idolatry, but while the performances are solid throughout, they are often loaded with too much false passion, as if the performers are hyper-aware that they're making a live recording rather than singing a joyous soundtrack to God. This takes away from some of the majesty Hillsong and Delirious? were clearly after, but the overall result is a positive one and should satiate CCM-minded fans.
