iTunes Review

SBTRKT's debut album brought a much-needed dose of soul to electronic music. Drawing from house, U.K. garage, R&B, and dubstep, the producer forged a style of after-hours club music that doesn't so much bang as purr, and the hushed vocals of collaborators—like Sampha, Jessie Ware, and Little Dragon—lend extra intimacy to his soft synths and spacious beats. One listen to the luscious low end on cuts like "Hold On" is enough to know why they call it "bass music."

Customer Reviews

Anyone who enjoys some form of electronic music should make love to this album. It has a perfect blend if chilled and upbeat concoctions. Download. Acknowledge. Love.

Great and Original

SBTRKT is original. There are some old electronic flare in some of the pieces like Heatwave which also has TD undertones in it. This is brilliant work and worthy of a download. Also worth a listen are some tunes from a new artist who is gaining in popularity Eric Walker. His songs Mua (The Rains in Vietnam), Nhu's Love are smooth. His other tracks Dreamscape, 2012 and Tangier Dream the title track of his CD really get you moving. Go listen to it and check it out for yourself here on itunes under the name of his Tangier Dream. Thank you SBTRKT for giving some new enjoyable music. I am telling all my friends about you to spread the word!

Not original - still good

Ambient "dance" grooves with more than a hint towards 90's trance and drum 'n' bass and occasionally more than a leaning to early Massive Attack. There is an excellent feel to this album and it should be listened to in a darkened room with all outside noise removed. Except maybe someone whispering in your ear. But skip "Wildfire" which contains everything that is SO repetitive and a bit naff about vocals in huge chunks of modern music. That track is destined to be heard in several cheap clothes shops for months. The rest is well worthwhile.

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '00s, '10s

A self-taught producer, London's SBTRKT -- aka Aaron Jerome -- mixes elements of dubstep, 2-step, garage, house, soul, and techno into a bass-heavy blend of flowing melodies and intricate percussion. The project's name was intended to remove the identity of any one person from the music, and SBTRKT even performed with a mask on to preserve that concept. After years of honing his craft, in 2009 Jerome sent tracks to DJs including BBC Radio 1's Graeme Sinden and Mary Anne Hobbs, who made singles such...
