Awful track

No wonder it languished in the lower top 20, the parent album faired no better, Kylies commercial and creative demise began here followed by the lacklustre Kylie album from 1994 and the trying to be to cool for shool album Impossible Princess. Kylie has proved only one thing over the years, despite her penchant for following in Madonna's re-inventive footsteps, she's not as apt at moulding new persona's like Madonna whom or evolving with differening musical styles, Madonna has a greater depth and breadth of musical knowledge and connection than Kylie whom seems more than ever the pop persona Madonna left back in the 80's before she gave us Like A Prayer. Despite constant yearnings for critical acceptance among musical literaries Kylie has struggled to be taken seriously over the years and when this single came out her musical and pop presence was about as far away from cool as you could get, she longed for an adult audience but relied heavily on her gay and young fans, it took her almost a decade to garner anything like what Madonna had achieved right from day one with achingly cool hits like Everybody and Holiday, Kylies critical acceptance only came in 2001 with the dance single Cant Get You Out Of My Head. A career out of moulding herself on Madonna didnt necessarily turn her into the icon, it pushed her further away as the press labelled her a Madonna wannabe, the singing budgie as she was affectionatley known! Listening to this track reminds me of the daily papers and stories which constantly followed Kylies evolution into the Madonna clone she is today, The Lets Get To It Tour was heavily criticised as a childish attempt to model herself on Blond Ambition era, it took her a longtime to recover from that phase, a phase which finally ended the day she stopped trying to be Madonna and donned a pair of cheap gold hotpants, still Kylie didnt invent new disco, Madonna did that decades before, she just exploited a market she was good in, pop, and there she has remained semi succesful ever since. Skip to The Rythm Of Love album, Madonnas ex lover and producer created several of the tracks which are spot on pop, forget this single and its accompanying album, in fact fast forward to Light Years. It didnt fail to reach the top 15 without good reason.

On the one hand, in the pop music arena, worldbeaters such as Kylie Minogue are few and far between. Singers and performers of her stature and popularity rarely maintain their power for as long as she has. Her streaks of number one singles in both Australia and the U.K. are nearly insurmountable. And yet, on the other hand, her inability to really crack open the American pop market over the course of her career is a story that is heard all too often from groups hailing from nations as pop powerful...
