iTunes Editors' Notes

Thirteen years after the passing of front man Bradley Nowell, Sublime returns with a new lead singer and a spruced-up sound. On their first album with the band, Rome Ramirez displays plenty of easy-going vocal attitude with a distinct Jamaican flavor, backed up with crisp, in-the-pocket guitar work. For their part, drummer Bud Gaugh and bassist Eric Wilson reaffirm the mastery of slippery dance grooves that they displayed during Sublime’s ‘90s heyday. Tracks like “Take It or Leave It,” “Lovers Rock” and “Same Old Situation” move with an undulating reggae skank as Ramirez holds forth on the joys and hassles of everyday romance. Adding some extra sizzle to the simmering ambiance of the album are “Paper Cuts” (a punky flashback to Sublime’s early days) and “Can You Feel It” (sparked up by dub effects and Wiz Khalifa’s rap break). Ramirez gets mildly political on “Only,” but for the most part keeps the lyric mood light and festive. On its own terms, Yours Truly more than succeeds as a smile-inducing, groove-powered excursion.

Rome with Sublime

It's a good album - but if you are looking for the reincarnation of Bradley Nowell, then it hasn't happened on this album. There are a few songs where it feels Rome is trying to be Bradley (ie panic, paper cuts), but on the whole this is Rome being Rome and he primarily focuses on the love reggae rock songs and lacks the rawness and personality of Brad Nowell.

That is not a problem - Rome does have a very good voice, is obviously highly talented and as a result this is still a very good album, and if you are a sublime, pepper, b foundation, slightly stoopid et al fan then you will obviously like this album to.
Rome just lacks the personality and character that would shine through when Bradley sings.

At the end of the day it is Sublime with Rome, not Sublime, but could also be argued it is Rome with Sublime. It does make me smile listening to this knowing Eric & Bud are playing together once again and sound great as usual....there are some songs you will love, and a few that are a bit plain...but on the whole I like it, and I dont think Bradley would disapprove either....as he famously said .."good music is good music and that should be enough for anyone".

Rome is a good replacement, but not brad

We all no brad was the best and totally made the band, but Rome is very talented and there no need to hate this is what brad would of wanted that aside, Panic sounds a lot like seed! Am I the only one that thinks that? Best songs are take it or leave it, can you feel it, Same old situation, murderA. overall I am pleased with this album that they are carrying on the sublime legacy 4 star was a push because it's not a great album but defiantly worth a look if your a die hard fan, but its only what you can except from Rome, trying to live up to brad he hasn't done a to shabby job to be quite frankly. Peace.
