What's New

Version 7.1.1

Good day, folks! Today’s update to 1Password brings along a few new features and a couple very important fixes. Let’s dive in, shall we?

(Editor's note, this is a republication of 1Password 7.1, with Markdown support enabled. Previously it was only enabled for the 1Password development and test environment).

## Rich Text in Secure Notes Using Markdown

When we introduced 1Password 7 for Mac back in May we debuted a whole new way to look at your secure notes. Today, we’re happy to announce that 1Password for iOS has joined the party. You can now create gorgeous looking secure notes complete with headers, bold and italic text, lists, tappable links, and more.

## 1Password Stickers

If you follow us on social media or keep up to date with our blog (and why wouldn’t you?) you know that our art department is incredibly talented. We are always looking for new ways to let them stretch their creative muscles. When they came to us with a collection of stickers and asked to create a sticker app, there was no way we could refuse. You’ll find a whole collection of stickers in Messages, we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

## Fixes, Fixes, Everywhere

Two of the most prevalent bugs we’ve seen reported have also been fixed in this update. Searching no longer returns broken or incorrect results, and creating a new item no longer causes 1Password to become unresponsive. We had some fantastic help from many of you tracking these bugs down; thank you so much.

## New

- Markdown support in Secure Notes! {OPM-1099}
- 1Password now generates specific icons for each item when an icon doesn't exist. {OPI-4366}
- 1Password Stickers! Check out our stickers in Messages app.

## Improved

- Updated the text throughout the app to be more consistent.
- Improved rendering of template icons in list and detail views.

## Fixed

- Corrected an issue where search could become completely hosed when the items in a vault were updated while search was taking place (for instance, when syncing). {apple-issues#62}
- Fixed an issue where adding a Related Item would not refresh the item detail view. {apple-issues#1075}
- Fixed an issue that allowed users without the proper permission to move an item to the trash. {apple-issue#1330}
- Corrected a problem where 1Password would become unresponsive after adding a new item.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when decrypting an item's icon. {apple-issues#1567}
- Fixed a crash that could occur when viewing Secure Notes. {apple-issues#1724}
- Fixed a crash that could occur during item saving. {apple-issues#1734}

Brilliant until something goes wrong and then you’re all alone and stuffed

I loved this app, I even recommended it to friends and colleagues BUT that was before I had a problem and then the developers are no where to be seen. I used this app successfully for three years, used it fully i.e. created complex passwords including the one to unlock the vault. I had over 180 different logins.
Unfortunately I dropped my phone and needed to get the screen repaired which also means the digital Touch ID scanner. When I tried to get back into 1Password obviously there was no recognised figure print and because I had followed the apps advice had used a complex password. No problem! I also had a back up plan I had set up 1Password on my iPad. However, the app is so flawed that when I went to open the vault via my iPad it wouldn’t let me use my finger ID and insisted I put my password in. Well as you can see I had no way of getting my password. I have emailed the developers several times to ask for help but they do not respond. I am a paying customer and feel very aggrieved about this. The disruption this has caused is unbelievable I have almost lost my job because I used this app for my work passwords. I have had trouble accessing my bank account. All this when I buying a new house. I would really warn any off using this app as the after sales support service is appalling and I actually feel that things have been stolen from me. Horrid horrid people.

Hi Dbsheff. 1Password encrypts your data using your Master Password. As such the only way to decrypt your data is with that password. We do have a guide which may help available here: https://support.1password.com/forgot-master-password/ Thanks! Ben Woodruff, 1Password

Most used and defiantly Essential. Great software, customer care & development

The best app/software I have ever purchased, literately. The guys at Agile have, in my opinion, always strived to build quality software that is really worth buying and doesn't expect you to 'upgrade' at every opportunity. The easy user interface, consistent quality and continual development keeps both desktop and phone/tablet software ahead of the competition.

This is all complimented with an outstanding team always ready to help when you hit difficulties using 1Password and your ideas and suggestions are always welcomed.

A secure and great way to ensure your online accounts/financial information are as safe as is possible from those who would try to steal and cause electronic and financial fraud...and the headache that comes with it, as happened to me after my email address and password were kindly hacked into by someone in China and on display online along with the other 300,000 listed. I only found out by curiosity in searching my email address.

Great when it can be used, but....

This app Is fine for computer-literate users, but I would hesitate to recommend it to others. It works fine when it is fully aligned with the website or phone app that I am trying to access, but there are so many instances where it just doesn't work. For example, many websites ask you to enter the new password twice - sometimes the app does this fine, other times not; you can try copy/paste to get the password into the second box, but some websites don't allow it. Also, where a company has both a website and a phone app, there often isn't any way to easily get the password into both, other than writing it down and typing it in, which kind of defeats the objective. Obviously it would be an impossible task to align completely with every website or app out there; I just feel that more could be done to help users get round the difficulties.

Also, like other comments, I find it really annoying to be constantly having to re-enter the full password to get into the app or to get a password.

Developer Response

Hi RADC1947. Thanks for the feedback! You’re right that it is a very difficult problem to tackle as there are no standards for how websites set this up, and custom tailoring a solution for every single website that is out there is just impractical (if not impossible). That said there are some things you mentioned that I think we can do better on (either today or in the future). Would you mind reaching out to us directly with this feedback? I think there are ways we can help with your workflow. You can reach us at support+appstore@agilebits.com Thanks! Ben Woodruff, AgileBits
