Free safety net, Glad I have it, Be careful tho

I’ve used 7Cups for years. As the concept of Talk Therapy, for free, it provides a good safety net. Especially for those, like myself, who A) Can’t afford therapy in real life B) Have at times not been able to leave my flat to get help C) Have needed support right now, at a moments notice and D) Have been too nervous to get support over the phone or face-to-face, online is comfortable. Don’t expect it to hear your problems but if you need someone to talk to, even just to clarify your own solution, or if your isolated and just want to connect with someone likeminded, it can be good. BUT please be aware it is internet so it has its shortcomings; mute any trolls; safeguard yourself; and seek positive solutions. Also it is volunteer-lead and free so don’t put expectations on quality, its luck of the draw. It is improving though ever since they started paying staff to develop the site/app so I have hope that its shortcomings will become less and less in the future. The staff are increasingly attentive and are there to help if there’s any problems or issues or concerns.

Good for long term support, less so for short term one-to-one therapy

I came to this app because of family issues and needed to speak to a counsellor. The counsellor helped mainly by listening, but it wasn’t real time and she tended to check in every now and then. Therapy is about your relationship with the therapist, so the format limits that - even compared with other platforms I’ve used. I cancelled my subscription and found the cost of a online therapist rather high - I’d liked that to have been more obvious. Instead of a subscription I’d have preferred by-session proper one-to-one conversation in real time - I want my therapist to be paid and I think that would have transformed it as there was no defined session. The approach is, I feel, aimed at those that need longer term assistance in a more hands-off way. For those who can’t afford therapy, active listeners and a community are available. In that way, I can see the value in this. But for actual therapy I’d say it’s limited and either see a real therapist or try another platform where you can book real sessions.

Love it

I am in love with the website, the idea behind it and the community.

There are endless options-you can get help in so many different ways whether it be the forums where you can connect to and with like minded people. Or one on one conversations with a listener or therapist.

There is also a personal progression path for you to focus on as well.

Very friendly and open online atmosphere!

I did one am loving being both a member and a listener-it sounds silly but I never knew how refreshing it could be to talk and to help different people, and how much healing them has been a part of my own healing journey.

But when I have a down day I can go onto 7 cups and know there'll be open arms of help and support

All in all-very innovative proactive community.
Great website, easy and clean, great to navigate but with a great balance of information-just enough but all out in a way that's not overwhelming.
The app is great too. The only thing I will say is that as a listener, it does become hard after a few 1on1 chats because when your finished talking there's no way or filtering out to be continued chats or chats that haven't responded-it would be great if there was a chat filter for listeners to organise active and inactive members
But other than this, I think 7 cups is just right for me and hopefully others too-so give it a try!
